NFPA 10 requires fire extinguisher cylinders to be pressure-tested every 12 years. In-house hydrostatic testing with certification documentation for units that pass. Units that fail are flagged for replacement.
NFPA 10 requires that fire extinguisher cylinders be pressure-tested every 12 years to verify structural integrity. This test, called hydrostatic testing, confirms the cylinder can safely hold pressure without risk of rupture or failure. Units that cannot pass must be removed from service.
Over time, fire extinguisher cylinders can develop internal corrosion, stress cracks, or material fatigue that is not visible from the outside. A cylinder that looks fine externally may be structurally compromised. Hydrostatic testing verifies the cylinder itself is safe, independent of the extinguishing agent or valve components.
Testing is performed in-house. The extinguishing agent is removed, the cylinder is filled with water and pressurized to a specified test pressure, and the cylinder is evaluated for expansion and any signs of leakage or deformation. Units that pass receive a certification label with the test date. Units that fail are condemned and cannot be returned to service.
If a unit is also due for 6-year internal maintenance or recharging, those can be performed in the same service visit. Available across all of Miami-Dade County.

Contact UsHydrostatic testing is a pressure test on the extinguisher cylinder to verify it can safely hold pressure without risk of rupture. NFPA 10 requires this every 12 years for most extinguisher types.
Units that fail hydrostatic testing must be removed from service immediately. They cannot be recharged or returned to use. Replacement options from our extinguisher sales service are provided for any unit that does not pass.
Most stored-pressure extinguisher types require testing every 12 years. CO2 and water extinguishers require testing every 5 years. The exact interval depends on the extinguisher class and agent type.
Yes. If a unit is also due for 6-year internal maintenance or recharging, all service can be performed in a single visit.
